Walking on the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is a perfect base for walking, the landscape and beaches make the most perfect backdrop for outdoor activities. Whether it's for a family stroll, or a jaunt down to the beach, or a more serious hike over the various Downs or cliff walks.

There are over 500 miles of marked footpaths and routes through designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, forests and wetlands.

Many walks will take you close to Island attractions from theme parks and zoos to historic houses and sub-tropical gardens. Wherever you go, you’re never far from a welcoming country pub, tea shop or restaurant.

Walking Routes and Maps

There are many trails across the Island to follow and the popular Stenbury Trail follows bridleways rising up and over Appuldurcombe, Stenbury and Week Downs affording beautiful views North & South, which can be reached from Appuldurcombe Gardens Holiday Park and you can view a map of the route here.

The AA website also offers a lovely walk from Godshill to Appuldurcombe, through unspoilt downland to the ruins of Palladian Mansion. Its a 4.5 mile walk with a medium level of difficulty - more information on the route can be found here.
